This new film was stylishly made under a big budget of around 5 crores. As a result of this big budget, producer as well as distributor of this film Antony Perumbavoor have asked the theatres to pay a fixed amount as Minimum Gaurantee for this film, which was later turned down by the theatres.
This is the first film for Antony Perumbavoor in the department of distribution since he had started a new distribution company named as Maxlab Cinemas & Entertainment Limited with the partnership of none other than Mohanlal. Antony has been distributing his films for the first few years through Swargachitra and later through Central Pictures.
With the theatres rejecting the Tamil Nadu model format of Minimum Gaurantee (MG), it is a setback for Maxlab as now the entire risk has to be taken by them. The MG amount needed not be returned even if the film fails to collect the amount and this prompted the theatres to reject the offer.
Saagar alias Jacky releases on March 27 in nearly 100 screens across Kerala. and a lot is riding on the film for Mohanlal and his favourite producer. Let's wait and see whether the film may able to match up with the expectations of the viewers.
