Scriptwriter A.K. Sajan has a special talent to explore the fascinations of a campus. It is evident from his previous venture Chintamani Kola Case that features nine wild girls in a Medical college 'Mirchi Girls' who are accused of the murder of a college mate Chinthamani. This notorious gang of campus girls was an interesting point of this investigative thriller, donning Suresh Gopi as an enigmatic criminal lawyer.
Following the same genre of presenting models as female gangs, A.K. Sajan has once again come up with another script named Red Chillies that will star a gang of nine ladies. This time, these nine ladies will play radio jockeys. Superstar Mohanlal will play Omar, their net friend in this movie.
Produced under the banner of Rajaputhra Movies, Red Chillies is a murder mystery revolving around a gang of nine Radio Jockeys working with FM 919.1. Mohanlal's character is named Omar, an NRI businessman settled in the Gulf and running this radio station in Kerala. Omar is an impeccable personality with multi-lingual talents; he can speak English, Arabic and Malayalam fluently. All his female staff are madly in love with him and he always communicates through e-mails to his female jockeys. On a New Year eve, he promises that he will reveal his love for one of them. But in a terrible twist in the plot, they are murdered one by one.
Interestingly, Malayalam playback singer Ranjini Jose is making her first appearance on the silver screen with this film. She plays the main character Isabella, one of the nine Radio Jockeys. She has also rendered songs for her character. Also in the cast are Vijaya Raghavan, Thilakan, Jagadeesh, Manian Pillai Raju and Sreekumar. Music is by Vinu Abraham and camera by Shaji. Red Chillies, directed by Shaji Kailas, is the first release by superstar Mohanlal in 2009.
